An exciting place to visit at any time of year, Edinburgh provides all the usual tourist attractions you would expect of a major European city as well as the sightseeing and historic buildings to explore, there is excellent shopping and eating out is always an adventure with your choice of international and traditional cuisine.

Edinburgh's history centres around the famous castle and a small chapel within it walls, both of which can still be found in the city centre today. Robert the Bruce granted a charter to the city and as space was very limited within the fortification wall, development was based around tenement type structures (forbearers of today's skyscrapers), some of which survive to this day within the old town which runs from the Royal Mile to Holyrood Abbey.

Scotland lost its independence in The Union of Parliaments in 1707 but retained its fine University and its own legal system. Today, following a long debate surrounding devolution, Edinburgh has once again become the seat of Scottish Parliament and central decision making for the country.

From the 18th Century onwards, Edinburgh grew beyond the protective medieval walls and with the addition of bridges, wide streets and squares, Edinburgh developed into the beautiful city we see today with classical buildings including the National Gallery which was inspired by building in Athens.

Home to the world's oldest independent department store, Edinburgh is a shopping experience not to be missed. You may wish to buy some more traditional tartans or cutting edge designer fashion – whichever it is, Edinburgh's Princes street will have the shop for you.

Should a visitor to this beautiful city require a more action packed approach to their stay then there are a number of leisure and sports centres, Archery, Swimming, Go Kart Racing, Skiing, Sailing, Golf and Fishing to entertain you, alternatively good walks and rambles can be found in the Pentland Hills just outside of the city.
